Liposuction is the mechanical removal of unwanted fat from the body. Here is some things to know before getting liposuction:
Smokers run increased risk of developing chest infections after liposuction. Birth control pill users will have increased chances for blood clotting. In both cases you will be required to stop several weeks before the operation.
Aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs should be stopped before the surgery as they may lead to excessive bleeding due to their blood thinning properties.
A considerable amount of bruising which heals in a few weeks. Be aware also that you may experience some swelling and lumpy skin for some time.
People with poor health, diabetes, poor blood circulation heart disease are not good candidates for liposuction.
If your skin is predisposed to forming keloid (red raised scars) scars on healing then your scars from the cuts the surgeon will have to make, may heal into keloid scars. They may be corrected but will require another surgery.
Numbness may result in the area being treated and may take as long as six months to disappear.
Damage to internal organs could o
cur which would result in another surgery to correct, but only in rare cases.
Sometimes fluids forms under the skin and have to be drained out.
Like any other operation you may be allergic to the anaesthetic, suffer an infection or too much bleeding.
The imbalance that may be created by fluid lose during the operation may cause problems and even be fatal. And some people may be allergic to the fluids used during the operation.
